What it understands

Chords above the lyrics, a plain line of chords, or ChordPro with the chords in [brackets]. A line counts as a chord line when nearly every word on it is a chord, so lyrics are left alone.

  • Slash chords move their bass note too: C/E up two steps is D/F#.
  • Suffixes stay as written: m7, maj7, 7M, 7(9), sus4, add9, °, m7(b5).
  • Spacing is kept, so each chord stays over the same syllable. When a name gets longer, the next chord moves right just enough.

Sharps or flats

On Auto, the spelling follows the key you move to: F, Bb, Eb, Ab and Db are flat keys, so a chart moved into F reads Bb, not A#. You can force sharps or flats. Auto takes the first chord of the chart as the key; if yours starts on another chord, choose the key in From.

Private

The page does the work in your browser. What you paste is not sent to a server and is not saved.

In the app

GraceNote does this on Stage in one tap, with a capo if you need one, and the song remembers its key. To find the capo for a key, use the capo chart.

Questions

Does it keep my lyrics?

Yes. Only the chords change. Lines that are not chord lines are copied exactly as you pasted them.

Can I move a chart to a key by name?

Yes. Choose the key it is in under From and the one you want under To, and the tool works out the semitones.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up.
